Containment relates to the idea of a wall, which according to A Dictionary of Symbols by Juan Eduardo Cirlot, expresses the idea of powerlessness, detention, and resistance — extreme situations. However, a wall in the form of a fence, and considered from within it, has a very different associated characteristic, which can be seen — depending on its function and conception — as one of protection.
