About Anja Ronacher (Salzburg, Austria, 1979) View artist profile >>

Anja Ronacher, born in Salzburg in 1979, lives and works in Vienna. She studied photography at the Royal College of Art in London and the Estonian Academy of Arts in Talinn, as well as scenography at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Her analogue photographs appear almost anachronistic in these times where we are today flooded with digital images; simultaneously, they offer a moment of deceleration. For her works, she photograps artefacts in museums. This process is the artist’s attempt to take them out of their museum context and return them―to ritual, to art, to non-knowledge, to a deeper, older knowledge; to an inner experience grounded neither in existence nor rationality.

Her works have recently been shown at Galerie Krinzinger (2017), Kunstverein, Salzburg (2014), Beers Lambert Contemporary, London (2012), Museum of Modern Art Salzburg (2010), Salzburger Kunstverein (2010) and Fotohof Salzburg (2009).
