Brian Duggan’s work is deeply historical and political, very concerned with questions and difficulties within labor and leisure, history and tradition, politics and popular entertainment. Artfroum described him as “one the most grounded, incisive artists working in Ireland today”.
Living and working in Dublin, he works with sculpture, film, installation, printing, publishing and sound. Trained as a sculptor, his installations are usually large-scale and his sculptures are usually smaller, made of wood or stone. He also works with the space and the message intended by the architects and their audiences.
The artist usually works on particular problems and crisis, taking the infromation from his personal experience, oficial documents and throw away comments, and centering also on the pre and post events where things do not work out as planned.
Usually, Duggan involves the viewer in his work, inviting him in the creation of collaborative art or projecting the installations considering the engagement with the audience.
He usually works inside institutions, museums and the street, where the problems he talks about take place. His work forms part of very important permanent collections all around Europe and also in Asia.
