Mercedes Mangrané is a visual artist with a wide perspective on painting and video. Her works depart from the closest observation of daily life details from an anthropological and poetic interest through a careful simplicity. Some of the past narratives of her late work question the common spaces constituted by the new leisure landscapes (such as gyms) the naturalized artifice or comfort as a reflection of biopolitical power. Through her paintings, she illustrates her appreciation for the scenes she encounters in her immediate environment.
Her work has been exhibited in solo shows as “Asir” at Museo Patio Herreriano curated by Javier Hontoria, “Reward” at Ana Mas Projects (special mention at Art Nou festival 2017) or “Susceptible” at Cultural Rizoma, Celrà Girona (2019). She has participated in several group exhibitions in cultural institutions from Barcelona and abroad such as Centre d’Art Santa Mònica (Barcelona), Can Felipa (Barcelona), Sala d’Art Jove (Barcelona), Bòlit Centre d’Art Contemporani (Girona), Centre Cultural del Carme (Valencia), Capella de St Roc (Tarragona), Espacio AB9 (Murcia), Espai Sala 15 (Olot). She has also exhibitied in art spaces and galleries such as Espacio Trapezio gallery (Madrid), Esther Montoriol Gallery (Barcelona), Bacelos Gallery (Vigo).
Her video works have been exhibited at various films festivals such as Loop 2018 curated by Xavier Acarín and Carolina Ciuti (Barcelona), Szecin Festival 2018 (Poland), Punto de Vista Documentary Film Festival 2013 (Pamplona), Demolden Video Project Space (Santander) Fringe Festival 2011 (Edinburgh). In addition, she has participated in group shows in independent cultural spaces such as Keroxen (Tenerife) or Karat (Cologne). She has participated in art residencies such as Hangar.org (long term residency program, Barcelona) and Major28 (Lleida).
