About Laure Prouvost (Lille, France, 1978) View artist profile >>

The Turner Prize-winning artist is known for her lush, immersive films and mixed-media installations. By confounding linear narratives and expected associations among words, images, and meaning, in her works “fiction and reality get really tangled”, as she says. Prouvost does not allow for passive viewing. Through her work, she often addresses viewers directly, pulling them into her unruly, imaginative visions. The Turner Prize was set up in 1984 by the group The Patrons of the New Art. Since then, it has become one of the best-known visual arts prizes. Each year, four artists under 50 are shortlisted. Winners include Anish Kapoor, Anthony Gormley, Damien Hirst or Steve McQueen.
