About Lara Fluxà (Spain, 1985) View artist profile >>

Lara Fluxà studied Fine Arts and holds a Master in Artistic Production and Research from the University of Barcelona and has visited courses in glass blowing at the National Glass Center, Segovia, Spain; at Centre del Vidre in Barcelona and at Escola de Ceràmica de la Bisbal, Spain.

Fluxà's artistic practice is built on sculptural works that allude to sensuality and organicity. Her medium par excellence is glass. Each of her sculptures seems to be bodies with their own life. Bent, transparent creatures that seem to grow in different shapes, sometimes filled with liquid of diverse nature, sometimes partially coloured, as if they were in constant metamorphosis, alive. Straight or distorted, polluted with industrial oil or crystal clear, they move along the narrow, irregular spaces of the room, like fluids creeping through every interstice. Elegant, enigmatic, fragile, sensual, evasive.

As the artist stated in an interview with María Muñoz published in Neo 2 magazine, “I am interested in various aspects of glass: its plasticity, its composition, the work process and everything that happens there, which is a deal between matter and gesture, but I am mostly intrigued about how the physicality of it affects us, as it is perceived as a fragile material. It is this fear of being broken what intimidates us, and makes us be aware, alert.” In that sense, Fluxà’s works makes us feel as vulnerable as the own nature of the objects in it. It is this notion of fragility, the subtlety and poetics and the dynamic view of stability that Fluxà alludes to in her artistic practice, together with her interest in the perception of the invisible.

Lara Fluxà’s works have been exhibited in national and international solo and group exhibitions, like at Espai 13 - Miró Foundation in Barcelona, Spain (2018-2019); Centre lo Pati, Amposta, Tarragona, Spain (2016); Felícia Fuster Foundation, Barcelona, Spain (2015-2016); Chapel of Mercy in Palma, Mallorca, Spain (2014); Museum of Contemporary Art Es Baluard, Mallorca, Spain; Hilvaria Studio’s Gallery, Tilburg, The Netherlands; MUU Kaapeli gallery in Helsinki, Finland; Casal Solleric, Palma, Mallorca, Spain; and at the Centre d’Art Santa Mònica in Barcelona, Spain, among others.

She has received the following scholarships and awards: ACCA Award for Art Criticism 2018 for the best Artistic Project for Verni, Espai 13 - Joan Miró Foundation, Barcelona, Spain; Art Jove Hall Award, Generalitat de Catalunya, Spain; Felícia Fuster Foundation Prize, Barcelona, Spain; Villa de Santanyí Visual Arts Award, Mallorca, Spain; Special Mention Awards City of Palma, Mallorca, Spain; and was granted a scholarship by the European Public Art Center project, Barcelona, Spain.

Her works are part of private and museum collections like the City of Palma Collection, Mallorca, Spain; the Consell de Mallorca, Spain; the City council of Inca and the City council of Santanyí, both in Mallorca, Spain.
