About Florence Sweeney (United Kingdom, 1991) View artist profile >>

Living and working in London, Sweeney’s works represent an amalgama between painting and sculpture, producing sensitive experiences on surface, material and form. By creating tactile installations, made of specific objects correlated, she weaves painting and sculpture in three-dimensional ways.

Sweeney also develops abstract paintings with soft, bright and radiant surfaces, with very vivid colours. The shadows that result in her paintings emphasise the three-dimensional reliefs, evoking a resonance between gesture and form. With pigment of burnt bones, ultramarine and concrete in contrast to fleshy pink latex she creates curves and folds.

Her way of using the negative space in her compositions is perplexing, subverting the surfaces where light and shadow play with the objects.
