Maria Carbonell undertakes a BA degree and doctoral studies in fine arts at San Carlos Faculty of Fine Arts, Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain, getting her degree in 2003. In the last year of her degree, she moves to Athens with a Sócrates – Erasmus grant. She lives and works in Murcia since 2008.
Some of her individual projects are Fake (Cajamurcia Foundation, Madrid, 2015), Dans l’interstice du silence (L’Escalier Espace d’Art, Montreuil, France, 2014), Transient places (Gallery 133, Toronto, 2014), Those who look / Aquellos que miran (BJ Art Gallery, Paris, 2013), Miscellaneous Works (Palacio de Garcigrande de Caja España – Caja Duero, Salamanca, 2013), o Sobre-expuestos (ES/UM, Espacio para el arte, University of Murcia, Murcia, 2012).
Throughout her artistic career she has been awarded different awards as the Pablo de la Peña de Torres Award (2016), Artist-in-residence of the VI Encontro de Artistas Novos “Cidade da Cultura” (2016), International Painting Award Toledo Puche (2012), and the Young Painters Award Gaceta de Salamanca Foundation (2011), as well as prestigious selections as the BP Portrait Award in 2011, 2014 and 2015.
Among her latest group exhibitions are Biennal de Mislata Miquel Navarro (Cultural Center of Mislata, 2017), Mundo de papel (Cendeac, Murcia, 2017), Art Banchel – Al margen hay sitio (Nave 6, Madrid, 2017), y HotelxHotel - Art & Breakfast 3 (Museo Carmen Thyssen, Málaga, 2017).
During 2018, she will take part of the proposal Mano a Mano, a project that will be presented at the ABC Cultural stand at ARCOmadrid 18.
