Josep Maria Riera i Aragó

Birth placeBarcelona Birth date1954

Riera i Aragó, painter, sculptor, drawer and engraver, recreates in his work a world of machines and gadgets (zeppelins, planes and submarines). He is deeply impressed by Cézanne, Matisse and Paul Klee, and very interested about catalan romanic art, so his work has evolved to create an original own language, with a strong symbolic content. His work can be considered as the arrival of a new vision, expressed through a rich and radical vocabulary of images and symbols that stimulate imagination. With his work he criticizes the irrational dazzle to the power of the machine as a symbol of progress.
