Garcin’s artistic career started in his late sixties after an entire life working as a lamp salesman. He made his first incursions in photography by taking part of workshops taught by figures such as Pascal Dolemieux during the Recontres d’Arles Festival. The artist’s work is mainly focused on photomontage through the use of analogic techniques. Most of the pieces are featured by the Garcin and his wife which evoke mythical characters like Ícaro and Sísifo. Critiques highlight that the artist’s pieces suggest a clear reminiscence both to the filmmaker Jacques Tati’s and Magritte’s aesthetic.

He was honoured with a prize from the Aubagne photography club has shown his work in several solo exhibitions in galleries such as Sala Tecla in Hospitalet del Llobregat and Hopper Gallery. In addition, Gilbert Garcín has participated in several collective exhibitions in France, the United States, Cuba and Brasil.
