Jerónimo López Ramírez, known as Dr. Lakra, creates irreverent and provocative images that transgress established norms, provoking the viewer attraction and repulsion at the same time. He does mural painting, collage, sculpture and drawings and paintings on posters, porn magazines and postcards, for what he is best known. He also collects objects, which he also considers part of his practice.
In his compositions, the way he mixes historical references, contemporary imaginary, quotes from pop culture and religious iconographies, shows he has a great understanding of art history and sense of humor.Through his work he explores in anthropology and ethnography, focusing on taboos, fetishes, myths and rituals of different cultures. He dismantles the criteria of what is right or wrong, civilized or barbaric.
His work has been shown internationally in every continent and in very important institutions such as The Barbican Center in London, The MOMA in NY or the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago among many others.
