Abdul Vas

Vas is an artist from the world, living and working bebtween Madrid and Amsterdam, he spent his childhood between Surinam, Guayana and Belgium.

His production is very diverse, working with photograhy, drawing, collage, paintings or mural, and having edited some books and fanzines too.

His work is very critical, he usually speaks about Venezuelan obsessions in contrast with symbols refering to the American Dream. A series of angry chickens is presenta ll over his work, refering to the masculine idea of the american cowboy, and showing a great influence from artists Marc Chagall, James Ensor or Mike Kelley. There are also other references to american culture in his work such as baseball teams, music groups such as The Rolling Stones or Metallica, and some symbols of the ameican imperialism. The australian music group AC/DC is also very central in his work.

His work is part of important private and public collections, and has had solo and group exhibitions all over the world, from the United States to Europe, going through Latin America and Asia too.

He was also selected to participate in the Beijing Biennale in 2009.

Publications such as Vice, ABC, Squire, The New York Times or Rolling Stone Magazine have also praised his work.
